ABOUT US - HISTORY
Pardo Baker Design import and distribute Wall Bed mechanisms and Electric Articulated Beds from Pardo in Spain. We have grown to be considered the largest supplier of Wall Bed mechanisms in the U.K. and Ireland and distributing to furniture manufacturers and retailers nationwide.
Pardo Spain was founded in the early 1960’s by a Spanish engineer, Mr Pardo who specialised in repairing hydraulic shock absorbers for vehicles. This was because the condition of roads in Spain in the 6o’s was spectacularly bumpy. Soon after, Mr Pardo was asked by a friend to develop a bed that folded down off the wall using a hydraulic shock absorber as a counterbalance the wall bed was reborn to the modern age.
From this he began to manufacture and distribute them throughout Spain and with more consumer awareness of the space saving concept and constant improvement in the product, the market opened up and Pardo Spain grew to become the largest supplier of wall bed products in the world, supplying all over Europe, the U.K, the U.S and in Australia.
In 1983 John Baker was approached by the architect involved in the St. Mellion Golf and Country Club – Time Share Project (Saltash, Cornwall UK). He was asked to provide a space saving wallbed as part of the Dining Room furniture to accommodate more guests per lodge. This he did and used a Pardo mechanism ( by Industrias Hidraulicas Pardo S.A. of Zaragoza.) in conjuction with a French Furniture manufacturer.
In 1985 John was appointed Pardo’s sole agent for the U.K. and Ireland, and as a result Pardo visitor beds and Wallbed systems were supplied to or specified by some of the largest Bed and Furniture companies, Hotel Groups, construction companies like George Wimpey for Studio Apartments, for leisure complexes, staff quarters including Fire Stations, schools and for mother and child rooms in Hospitals and Hospices.
This led to the setting up of Hideaway Beds Ltd to market the HideAway and SwingAway beds direct to users and also distribute nationally to furniture manufacturers and contractors.
John Baker’s personal involvement with with Mr. Pardo with modifying Wall beds and Visitor beds for the U.K. market in 1985 led to the design of the Electric Articulated Beds in the late 1980’s. This was the first BaKare Senior Bed which led to the development of the BaKare Beds Ltd. and the success of providing solutions for Home Care and Nursing Home Beds.
